Frühlingsplätzchen

Spring in a bottle

This cheery and charming room is bathed in sunlight, and includes direct access to our lovely terrace. It is shaped by the original wall murals by Freiburg artist Kathrin Leinfelder. Just inside the limits of the winegrowing region on the Upper Nahe lies Monzingen, whose two vineyards Halenberg and Frühlingsplätzchen are counted among the finest in the region. The name Frühlingsplätzchen, which can be translated as either 'A Little Place for Spring' or 'Spring Cookies,' has been around for centuries and likely refers to the unique microclimate that exists there. The snow melts particularly early, leading to a beautiful and extended spring. In many years, this set of conditions fosters an early budbreak and flowering that sets the stage for exceptionally ripe wines. The soil is comprised of crumbly red slate, interwoven with a layer of iron-rich clay. The Frühlingsplätzchen wines show notes of both ripe fruit and rich spice. The vineyard is predestined for Riesling, and "the" winegrower of note from Frühlingsplätzchen is the Emrich Schönleber Estate. The Schönleber family stands at the forefront of the international Riesling elite, aided in their efforts by the quality of this magnificent hillside vineyard.
