Boos von Waldeck

Boos von Waldeck is one of the oldest noble houses on the Rhine, one that shaped the history of Meisenheim and its region over hundreds of years. Few books of German legends neglect the legendary knight's boot libation. It tells of how the town of Hüffelsheim was given over to the Boos from Waldeck family after they won a bet against the Rhenish Count: drain to the dregs an enormous boot filled with wine. Keeping to more solid history, the estate from the Boos von Waldeck family is both located in Meisenheim and visible from the room's window. Deeds from 1422 forward attest to the family's noble rights. Those rights are likely actually significantly older. The building is estimated to date back to the 12th century. The noble estate remained in the possession of Boos von Waldeck until the early 19th century.

The relief on view in our Rittersaal shows Simon II Boos von Waldeck, who lived on our estate in the 16th century.

Visit the Boos von Waldeckschen Hof, both a protected landmark of note and a historical gem. The Boos von Waldeck family also owned the Montfort hill, after which one of the hillside vineyards for our Weingut Klostermühle Odernheim is named, and is the growing location of our prized Pinot vines. How about a Montfort Spätburgunder as a nightcap, or perhaps a Meisenheim Nr. 1 from our Boss von Waldeckschen Hof distillery?
